Parallel Kinematic Machine

CNC Machine Tools demand high accuracy and stiffness for manufacturing precision parts.  Traditional Machine Tool manufacturers designed the machines with massive structures and wide beds to make sure that the serial linkage system maintains the accuracy and stiffness. However, these massive structures and wide beds totally eliminate the flexibility that is significant for robots.

 

The Machine Tools developers have always attempted to  combine the flexibility and envelope of the robots with the accuracy and stiffness of traditional Machine Tools. In the last 20 years the focus of this development has been Parallel Kinematics Machines, PKM. This technology means that the motions in X, Y and Z are performed by three or more parallel axes that gives an outstanding stiffness and  accuracy  maintaining  flexibility and envelope.

 

In Parallel Kinematics Machining (PKM) technology, reach of the tool is almost spherical, hence it offers flexibility in manufacturing a complex component. In PKM the motions in X, Y & Z directions are realised by three or more parallel axes motions with adequate stiffness and accuracy also ensuring flexibility in pre-determined envelopes. The PKM machines are currently being used for machining and material handling.

 

Parallel Kinematic Machine has the following advantages over the traditional machine tool technology:

CMTI has Research License of PKM  technology from M/s Exechon  and is developing XT700 S model in-house to gain experience and expertise in different aspects of new generation PKMs.

 

CMTI is making an endeavor to gain knowledge in this area and further develop this technology for Indian industries and thereby assist Indian Industries to absorb this technology for manufacturing competitiveness.
