Chemical Analysis

1. Chemical composition analysis

a) Portable Optical Emission Spectrometer

Portable spectrometer is equipped with facility to carry out chemical analysis of Ferrous, copper, aluminium, nickel, zinc, cobalt and titanium base alloys for almost all the elements that are found in these alloys. The special feature of this equipment is that it is portable and has no limitation regarding size & shape of the material under test.

b) Lab Model Optical Emission Spectrometer:

Spectrometer is equipped with facility to carry out chemical analysis of Ferrous, copper & aluminium base alloys for almost all the elements that are found in these alloys.

The availability of adequate number of Certified Reference Standards ensures the reliable test results.

The chemical analysis of alloys through lab model spectrometer is accredited by NABL.

2. Coating thickness measuring equipment

There are two systems one lab model working on X-Ray scattering principle and other hand held portable working on Eddy current/magnetic current principle.

a) X-Ray Based

This X-Ray based equipment is capable of measuring the metallic coating thickness ranging from 0.1 micron to 50 microns. Thickness of multiple coating can also be measured without destruction.

b) Portable coating thickness measuring equipment:

This equipment is capable of measuring metallic as well as non-metallic coating thickness ranging from 1 micron to 1000 microns.

Adequate number of traceable masters ensures the reliability of test results.

3. Certified Reference Materials

The laboratory is in possession of large number of certified reference materials traceable to International standards. The CRMs are available for lending for calibration of optical emission spectrometer.

4. Corrosion test: Salt Spray Chamber

This is helpful in studying the corrosion resistant properties of electroplated and painted engineering components.

The 450 litre capacity salt spray chamber can accommodate samples of size 800 mm long, 600 mm width and 400 mm height. Provision exists to control rate of flow of salt solution and temperature there by possible to produce controlled accelerated corrosion environment.

5. Oil analysis: Rotary Viscometer

Chemical laboratory has facility for measuring some of the critical physical properties of lubricant and engine oils. Tests such as viscosity, moisture, TAN number, density, flash point, pour point etc can be conducted.

Rotary viscometer capable of measuring viscosity at various temperature ranging from –15 °C to + 150 °C using various spindles at varying RPM. The availability small sample adopter makes useful equipment for measuring viscosity using just 5 ml of oil sample.
